Every minute, of every day, over 2.4 million bits of stuff are added to the world wide web.

Videos, articles, pictures, tweets, gifs, and, of course, news stories about office cake sales.

According to a study by firm Beckon, the amount of “content” being “marketed” has tripled in the past year alone.

We’re being bombarded with information at an unprecedented rate, and that bombardment is accelerating.

Inevitably, therefore, we simply ignore almost all of it. According to Beckon, 5% of the total content produced last year generated 90% of consumer engagement.

So next time someone tells you that content marketing is the way ahead, maybe you could ask them how their content is going to be sufficiently different from everyone else’s to actually, you know, get noticed?
